How long does the pool resurfacing process take?
Have you thought about pool resurfacing but are unsure if it will be ready in time for next summer? One of the most common questions we encounter as pool renovation contractors on the Mornington Peninsula, is how long does pool resurfacing take?
Our clients have many different reasons for booking in a swimming pool restoration. Some have issues with damaged features, others may just be looking for an upgrade. No matter what the reason for the refurbishment is, every pool owner is still looking to receive a high-quality service within a reasonable period of time. Not only do you want to see your new pool, but drawn-out construction work can lead to an increase in the price.
We’ve put together a short guide on how long the pool resurfacing process should take from start to finish.
Step 1 – Deciding on what you want
At Coastal Pool Interiors, we don’t just offer pool resurfacing. You may also choose to add additional steps and ledges, lighting, waterline tiles, hand railings and more. Upgrading your pool can be a big decision, so you’ll usually want to take 1-2 weeks to decide on exactly what you want renovated. Take the time to consult with your local pool renovation contractors based in Mornington for some advice and inspiration. You can also visit our gallery to check out some of the work we’ve done for our clients. We will provide a schedule, so that you can see all of the work that will occur and how long it will take. We’ll also provide you with a site inspection and a detailed quote so you can break down the costs.
Step 2 – Preparing for the pool renovation
Once you’ve received your quote and you confirm with us that you’re looking to go ahead with the job, we will provide a range of available dates that are available to conduct your renovation, this will depend on how busy we are at that time.
Step 3 – The renovation
As a guide, our renovations range between 3-5 days onsite working. We allow 1 full week per job, unless otherwise advised. This week allows us to complete your renovation in a timely manor and not rush the process. This week includes everything that is required to renovate the swimming pool. From draining the water to washing the area post-renovation.
Step 4 – Curing time
The chalking of a fibreglass pool generally occurs when the top gel coat of your pool begins to oxidise. Over time, the shell can begin oxidising due to the amount of use it has had, or the excessive chlorination it has experienced over a long period. As we carry out many fibreglass pool repairs in Melbourne, chalking is something we experience all too often. Again, this chalky substance is toxic when inhaled or swallowed. For this reason, it’s important to schedule a swimming pool restoration when you begin to notice the early signs of oxidisation and chalking. Don’t risk the health of yourself or your family, schedule a fibreglass pool resurfacing in Melbourne before it’s too late.

Disruptions
It’s important to remember that even the professionals can still run into minor issues in the pool resurfacing process. You might face problems with leaks or large damaged areas which require more attention. We may also encounter weather at certain times that slow down the renovation process. It’s best to keep a few days spare in your schedule in the unlikely event of disruptions, as you never know what could be uncovered during the process.
